Nursing Shortage In Ontario

There is such a shortage of nurses in Ontario and not enough people entering into the field. The nursing shortage is going to increase with nurses retiring in the coming years. Nursing facilities have to retain their nurses by offering more money, better rewards, flexible work schedules, better benefits, funds to support education, and a support system for dealing with stress and burnout due to the current nursing shortage. The government should increase funds to nursing schools so they can increase the number of enrolments and spend more money on advertizing to attract new students. I find that hospitals that have a good orientation program and have the latest technology have longer waiting lists of nurses trying to join and a low turnover of nurses.

The shortage is predicted at the highest in roughly 2010 meaning when we get our BScN degrees, we will be overworked and stressed out. Something to look forward to, oh goodie!!

Fantastic video! I wish all of our employers could view this, and take a minute to reflect back to a time when either a family member or themselves were "touched" by the hands of a nurse. What would it be like without us? What WILL it be like without us?

We need support to fulfill our goals in nursing career advancement, retention, and recruitment. I just hope it will not come too late.....

Thanks
