Nursing Shortage In Ontario
There is such a shortage of nurses in Ontario and not enough people entering into the field. The nursing shortage is going to increase with nurses retiring in the coming years. Nursing facilities have to retain their nurses by offering more money, better rewards, flexible work schedules, better benefits, funds to support education, and a support system for dealing with stress and burnout due to the current nursing shortage. The government should increase funds to nursing schools so they can increase the number of enrolments and spend more money on advertizing to attract new students. I find that hospitals that have a good orientation program and have the latest technology have longer waiting lists of nurses trying to join and a low turnover of nurses.
Nursing Today
There are many new roles and responsibilities faced by nurses today and the most important of them all is the new responsibility of being more flexible and knowledgeable than ever before. Since patient populations, health care systems, and nurse competency demands are ever changing, nurses today must be able to constantly undergo a transformational process, change, and gather new information. Nurses work on the front lines and must do everything possible to help patients get the best care possible. Throughout it all, the nurse must maintain the stance of being a caring person and maintaining caring relationships with patients and others.
Stress in the workplace
Nurses are experiencing more problems with downsizing, elimination of services, and staff restructuring, due to shift in health care delivery systems. This causes high stress levels, which results in burnout, absenteeism, and anger. Nurses need to use adequate coping mechanisms to deal with this stress. They also must deal with reactions from patients and their own grief reactions. While most nurses may have effective problem solving methods that help them deal with this stress, it is important to have optimal communication and interactions with colleagues in order to develop an emotional support system for each other to deal with stress.

Technology is overcoming communication barriers in health care
Technology is helping when it comes to overcoming communication barriers in health care by using computers which are lined to the hospital database. This database contains all the patients’ history which lets all the medical team treat the patient better. The technology allows the nurse to collaborate and communicate with other medical staff, and makes workflows more organized making efforts more efficient and accurate. Thus, the use of information systems helps nurses make fewer mistakes and provide more organized and efficient care of the patient.
Nurses today are using information technology across disciplines and areas of care to improve all aspects of patient care. This technology provides information quickly and in an organized fashion, which enables the nurse to be apprised of all aspects of care.

My first blog post
My name is Ajay and I am an RPN in the Post RPN to BSN program. I really enjoy being a RPN and working with the elderly. I did my RPN course in Ottawa which is a great city. Montreal was very close which was a good place to visit. I think creating a blog is a good idea to keep in touch with family and friends. If I plan to start a medical business one day. I think creating a blog will be a great way to start and it will be very cost effective way to see if my business has a place in the market.
